Best Hair Care Routine for Oily Hair
Oil hair can be a pain to style and manage. Here are some tips for the best hair care routine for oily locks.
Oily hair can be a big issue for many people. It can look unkempt and greasy, which of course makes it harder to style. Oily hair also tends to have more scalp issues, such as dandruff, than other types of hair. If you are tired of dealing with your oily hair then this article is just what you need!
Oily hair can be caused by a number of different factors, including genetics, hormones, diet, and even the products you use. While there is no one-size-fits-all solution to oily hair, there are some general tips and tricks that can help. In this blog post, we'll explore what causes oily hair and some of the best ways to care for it.
Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp. Oil is produced by hair follicles and secreted onto the scalp to protect it. But when your scalp produces too much oil, you have oily hair - which can be really annoying!

There are many hair care routines you can try depending on how oily your hair is, from using a shampoo that's specifically designed for oily hair to using a dry shampoo to help soak up some of the excess oil. What's important is finding the right routine for your needs. Some key points:
- Do NOT over-wash your hair: This makes your scalp work overtime to replace the oils you’ve stripped away
- Use the right shampoo & conditioner: We recommend Bumble & Bumble, which has two different types of oil absorption products–one for coloured hair and one for naturally oily hair. Come visit Canvas Salon to pick them up (we have them in stock IRL)!
- Use dry shampoos as needed: This can help takeaway the grease look and feel of oily hair between washes. Use dry shampoo ~2-3 days after a fresh wash, not earlier. Note: Use dry shampoo on the hair only, not the scalp!
Best Products for Oily Hair
This mist spray is a dry shampoo that can help mediate the appearance of slick, oily hair between washes.
This is a texturizing and volumizing powder with a matte effect that works well to combat common problems of oily hair, like “slickness” and flatness.
The best thing to do for oily hair is to use hair products that restore volume and shine, which can reduce your natural oil production. In addition to using a good shampoo and conditioner it's important to exfoliate your scalp to remove dirt, excess oil, and skin cells that contribute to clogged pores.
The right hair care routine can have your head feeling and looking its best. If you're in need of a refresh, it might be time to hit a salon and talk to your stylist about personalized product and routine recommendations.
